Plus, Cade Strickland takes top honors at the Snohomish Summer Smash and a Mill Creek LL softball team captures a state title.

Amy-Eloise (Neale) Markovc is headed back to the world stage.

The Glacier Peak High School graduate was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, which take place Aug. 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary. Markovc will compete in the women’s 5,000 meters.

Markov, who qualifies to represent Great Britain because she was born in England, placed second in the 5,000 at the British Athletics Outdoor Championships on July 8-9 in Manchester, United Kingdom, finishing in a time of 15 minutes, 58.87 seconds. She then booked her spot in Budapest when Great Britain announced its team last Friday, as she was one of two athletes picked for the 5,000.

This is Markovc’s second time qualifying for the World Championships, as she placed 25th in her heat at last year’s meet in Eugene, Oregon, with a time of 15:31.62. She also represented Great Britain in the event at the 2021 Olympics. She is currently ranked 21st in the world at that distance.
