The first of the local high school softball district tournaments begin Friday, when the Class 3A District 1 tournament opens at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett and the Class 2A District 1 tournament begins in Sedro-Woolley.
The 3A tournament starts with four loser-out games Friday, with the winners advancing to Tuesday’s quarterfinals. Fifth-seeded Monroe (13-7) faces No. 12 Oak Harbor (9-10) for the right to face No. 4 Meadowdale (13-7); No. 6 Mount Vernon (11-9) faces No. 11 Mountlake Terrace (7-13) for the right to face No. 3 Everett (14-6); No. 7 Cascade (10-10) faces No. 10 Shorewood (11-10) for the right to face No. 2 Stanwood (16-4); and No. 8 Marysville Getchell (10-9) faces No. 9 Arlington (8-12) for the right to face top-seeded and 2023 state runner-up Snohomish (16-5). Five teams advance to the state tournament.
In the 2A tournament, Lakewood, Cedarcrest and Archbishop Murphy earned the fourth, fifth and sixth seeds, respectively, meaning they each received a bye into Wednesday’s quarterfinals. Lakewood (12-5) faces Cedarcrest (13-7), while Archbishop Murphy (4-15) faces No. 3 Lynden (16-5). Two teams advance to state.
The Class 4A District 1/2 tournament gets underway Monday at Phil Johnson Fields. Defending state champion Jackson (19-2) is the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of a loser-out game between No. 10 Glacier Peak (11-7) and the Kingco No. 5 in the quarterfinals. Lake Stevens (15-3) is the No. 5 seed and will face the Kingco No. 3 in the quarters. Kamiak (14-4) is the No. 8 seed and will face the Kingco No. 6 in a loser-out game for the right to face the Kingco No. 1 in the quarters. The Kingco tournament concludes Thursday night to determine the Kingco seeds. Five teams advance to state.
In the Class 1B District 1/2 tournament, Darrington is one of the two No. 1 seeds. The Loggers host the winner of Monday’s loser-out game between No. 2 Quilcene and No. 3 Concrete at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the winner of that game advancing to the championship game and securing a state berth.
The Class 1A Emerald Sound Conference tournament doesn’t begin until next Thursday as teams complete their regular season this week. One team advances to state.
