District softball tournaments begin Friday

Snohomish in 3A, Jackson in 4A are among the teams looking for another deep postseason run.

The first of the local high school softball district tournaments begin Friday, when the Class 3A District 1 tournament opens at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett and the Class 2A District 1 tournament begins in Sedro-Woolley.

The 3A tournament starts with four loser-out games Friday, with the winners advancing to Tuesday’s quarterfinals. Fifth-seeded Monroe (13-7) faces No. 12 Oak Harbor (9-10) for the right to face No. 4 Meadowdale (13-7); No. 6 Mount Vernon (11-9) faces No. 11 Mountlake Terrace (7-13) for the right to face No. 3 Everett (14-6); No. 7 Cascade (10-10) faces No. 10 Shorewood (11-10) for the right to face No. 2 Stanwood (16-4); and No. 8 Marysville Getchell (10-9) faces No. 9 Arlington (8-12) for the right to face top-seeded and 2023 state runner-up Snohomish (16-5). Five teams advance to the state tournament.

In the 2A tournament, Lakewood, Cedarcrest and Archbishop Murphy earned the fourth, fifth and sixth seeds, respectively, meaning they each received a bye into Wednesday’s quarterfinals. Lakewood (12-5) faces Cedarcrest (13-7), while Archbishop Murphy (4-15) faces No. 3 Lynden (16-5). Two teams advance to state.

The Class 4A District 1/2 tournament gets underway Monday at Phil Johnson Fields. Defending state champion Jackson (19-2) is the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of a loser-out game between No. 10 Glacier Peak (11-7) and the Kingco No. 5 in the quarterfinals. Lake Stevens (15-3) is the No. 5 seed and will face the Kingco No. 3 in the quarters. Kamiak (14-4) is the No. 8 seed and will face the Kingco No. 6 in a loser-out game for the right to face the Kingco No. 1 in the quarters. The Kingco tournament concludes Thursday night to determine the Kingco seeds. Five teams advance to state.

In the Class 1B District 1/2 tournament, Darrington is one of the two No. 1 seeds. The Loggers host the winner of Monday’s loser-out game between No. 2 Quilcene and No. 3 Concrete at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the winner of that game advancing to the championship game and securing a state berth.

The Class 1A Emerald Sound Conference tournament doesn’t begin until next Thursday as teams complete their regular season this week. One team advances to state.
