Everett plays the spoiler

EVERETT — The Everett Seagulls played the spoiler Thursday night.

Everett ruined Lakes Stevens’ chance of clinching the fourth and final 4A District 1 playoff berth by beating the Vikings 1-0 in a Wesco North game at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The Seagulls’ Mark Lee connected off a Daniel Espinosa assist in the 62nd minute into the right upper corner of the goal. Everett played the last 12 minutes in their own end defending against a relentless Viking attack to hang on to the victory.

Everett opens 3A District 1 play against Mount Vernon at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.

“It kinda gives us a little momentum,” Seagulls coach Brent Anderson said. “We play in a tough league to prepare us, so we should be able to compete.”

Cascade 4, Arlington 2: At Arlington, Jeff Gosslee scored two goals and had an assist for Cascade in the Wesco North game. Arlington played a man down after losing a player due to a red card in the first 10 minutes.

Mariner 1, Kamiak 0: At Everett, Mariner scored in the 50th minute to close out its season with a Wesco South victory. The Marauders captured the Mukilteo Cup for the second consective season.

Shorecrest 6, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Shoreline, Jonathan Cho had a goal and two assists to lead the Scots to the Wesco South victory. Michael Harris, Glenn Paden, Josh Rudnick, Mikey Wyda and Ruben Balthasar added goals for Shorecrest. Andrew McDonald recorded the shutout in goal for the Scots.

At Shoreline Stadium

Shorewood 1, Meadowdale 0: At Edmonds, Safaa Al-Jelahawai scored a goal off an assist from Ciaran Regan in the 78th minute as the Thunderbirds defeated the Mavericks in Wesco South soccer action. Dorian Lair recorded his ninth shutout of the season in goal for Shorewood.

At Edmonds District Stadium

Archbishop Murphy 2, Burlington-Edison 0: At Everett, Jeff Renslo recorded his fifth straight shutout and Archbishop Murphy moved into the 2A District 1 tournament with a non-conference, play-in win. The Wildcats will play Sehome at 8 p.m. Saturday at Whatcom Community College.

Sultan 3, Mt. Baker 1: At Sultan, Simon Chavez and Nathan Barnhill each had a goal and an assist and Sultan moved into the 2A District 1 tournament with a non-conference win. The Turks will face Bellingham at 6 p.m. Saturday at Whatcom Community College.
