EVERETT – Zach Hamill has been the Everett Silvertips’ main constant this season. Saturday night he was recognized for his efforts.
Hamill was given the team’s Most Valuable Player award following Saturday’s season finale against Vancouver.
Hamill, an 18-year-old center, scored 93 points, which led the league going into Saturday’s games. He set single-season franchise records for both points and assists (61).
Hamill was one of several players honored during the year-end awards ceremony. The awards were voted on variously by players and coaches.
Kyle Beach was named the Rookie of the Year. The 1990-born left wing had 29 goals and 32 assists, leading the league among 16-year-olds.
Goaltender David Reekie received the Unsung Hero Award. The 19-year-old went 20-6 with a 1.77 goals against average and .925 save percentage after arriving in an early-season trade, and he filled in capably while No. 1 Leland Irving was away at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Defenseman Jonathan Harty received two awards. The 18-year-old received the Coaches Award and was also named the Community Relations Player of the Year.
Captain Jason Fransoo received the Iron Man Award. The 20-year-old defenseman appeared in 71 of Everett’s 72 games, his only missed game coming Friday when he was given the night off. It was the second straight year Fransoo was named the Iron Man.
Damir Alic was named the Scholastic Player of the Year. The 19-year-old center is a full-time student at the University of Washington in addition to his hockey commitments.
Jesse Smyke was named the Most Improved Player. The 19-year-old right wing has become one of Everett’s top penalty-killing forwards.
