Jackson wins battle of unbeatens in Wesco South soccer

EVERETT – Behind a solid defense and some good goalkeeping, the Jackson boys soccer team stayed undefeated with a 2-0 victory over Mariner in a Western Conference South soccer match.

Monday’s shutout was the Timberwolves’ (3-0-1 in league, 9-0-2 overall) second in a row and fifth this season. The loss was Mariner’s first in Wesco play.

“Our defense is coming together,” said Jackson coach Mike Bartley, “and that’s helping us sustain our momentum.”

Offensively the Pope twins gave Jackson all it would need. In the game’s ninth minute, Kris Pope assisted on a Cameron Riel goal, while brother Kory Pope scored a goal of his own right before halftime.
