Kamiak comes from behind to beat M-P

MARYSVILLE – Senior guard Tyler Martinez scored 18 points and Sean Hermes added 15 as the Kamiak boys basketball team won its season-opener 67-62 over Marysville-Pilchuck (0-3 overall) Saturday at the M-P gym.

The Knights (1-0) outscored the Tommies 18-10 in the third quarter, tying the score 46-46 to enter the fourth quarter.

“They tied it up and then they slipped into a zone in the fourth quarter, which really caused a lot of problems for us,” Marysville-Pilchuck coach Mike Lowery said. “That zone really proved to be the biggest difference.”

The Knights, who trailed 36-28 at halftime, scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to cap off the come-from-behind victory.

“We played better defense in the second and executed better on offense, it was as simple as that,” Kamiak coach Jeff Leary said.

Jason Krischano led M-P with 17 points and nine rebounds.
