Kennewick duo too much for Meadowdale in 11-point win

Herald staff

LYNNWOOD – A trip across the state on a snowy wet weekend apparently didn’t take much off the games of Autumn Fielding and Leilani Mitchell. The two Kennewick players dominated play, combining for 45 points, as the Lions beat the Meadowdale Mavericks 62-51 in a non-conference girls basketball game Saturday night.

Fielding had 27 points, including three of Kennewick’s five 3-point baskets.

The Mavericks held a two-point lead at the half and were tied entering the final period at 41-41.

But back-to-back games took a toll with a bit of early season fatigue in the fourth quarter.

“It was our second game in two nights,” said Maverick head coach Karen Blair. The Mavericks picked up a 60-33 Wesco South win Friday night over Edmonds-Woodway.

Jennie Swerk led the Mavericks with 19 points and seven rebounds. Tera Jacob scored 11 points, including one basket from 3-point range.

The loss evened the Mavericks’ record at 1-1.
