3A STATE TOURNAMENT

Yelm 38, Marysville Pilchuck 13

YELM — The 16th-seeded Tomahawks gave the top-seeded Tornados a scare for three quarters, but defending 3A state champion Yelm pulled away in the final frame for a win in the first round of the 3A state tournament.

Marysville Pilchuck (7-4) trailed 10-6 at halftime and gained a 13-10 advantage after Marcus Gaffney’s touchdown reception the early in the third quarter.

Bellevue 49, Monroe 7

BELLEVUE — The 11th-seeded Bearcats opened the scoring, but that’s all they’d get as the sixth-seeded Wolverines scored seven unanswered rushing TDs en route to a victory in the first round of the 3A state tournament.

Monroe (9-2) scored on Carl Watson III’s blocked punt that Nick Mouser recovered in the end zone on the game’s first possession.
