Prep softball: Granite Falls 9, Cedarcrest 6

DUVALL — Kimmy Martinez endured a rough first three innings in the circle for Granite Falls before righting the ship and securing a 9-6 complete-game win in a Cascade Conference softball contest Friday at Cedarcrest H.S.

The Tigers (7-2, 8-2) shrugged off 3-1 and 5-4 deficits thanks to a five-run fourth inning.

Had Cedarcrest won, the Red Wolves (4-3, 4-4) would have drawn even with the Tigers for second place in the league standings and pulled a game ahead in the loss column. But Martinez, who gave up five earned runs on 11 hits, struck out eight and kept Cedarcrest to a lone sixth-inning run after the third.

Dani Kissinger took the loss for Cedarcrest, giving up seven earned runs in seven innings.

Granite Falls’ Haley Brennan was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run. Tigers catcher Payton Spencer added a pair of hits and RBI to go with a run scored. Cacia Stevens’ two hits also netted two runs for the victors.

Kailyn Campbell batted 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBI to lead the Red Wolves.
