PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP

SNOHOMISH — The Snohomish Panthers baseball team has a young pitching staff that needs work to develop. On Saturday against Meadowdale, seven pitchers got that work in the Panthers’ 11-3 nonconference victory.

“In a lot of these nonleague games, I like to throw everyone,” Snohomish head coach Kim Hammons said. “We have a young pitching staff, it just gives them more experience, more growth.”

Hammons said the Panthers don’t have pitchers that will be able to go five and six innings a game as the season goes on, and anticipates using two, three and sometimes even four pitchers in league games.

“Over the course of the season, we are going to use these guys and they need to develop,” Hammons said.

Meadowdale had chances to keep the game close, loading the bases in the fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to capitalize. Chase Anselment hit a hard ground ball to the first baseman in the fourth inning, and Jeff Askew flied out to left field in the fifth to end both threats.

“We picked up the key hits in this game,” Hammons said. “We kept the damage to a minimum, and did not allow the big hit or the big inning.”

Bryce Meinhold got the win for Snohomish on the mound and added a solo home run. Bubba Robbins was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Clayton Jensen picked up his first varsity hit for Snohomish in the win.
