Prep volleyball: Shorewood matches its 2007 victory total

SHORELINE — Kelsey England had 16 kills, three aces and four blocks to lead Shorewood (2-1 overall) to a 16-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10 non-league victory over Oak Harbor Tuesday at Shorewood H.S.

The win matched Shorewood’s victory total from last year.

Both Shorewood victories were in five sets. Last season the Thunderbirds were 0-4 in five-set Wesco South matches.

“We don’t give up anymore. We have a lot of desire and tenacity to pull it out,” Shorewood coach Anne Whipple said.

Three Shorewood players had 10 or more kills with Ashley Baker getting 13 and Anne Lundquist getting 10.

“We’re really a cohesive group this year,” Whipple said.

Kim Mowbray had seven kills and five blocks for Oak Harbor (1-2) and teammate Melany Cone had 29 assists and five aces.

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Snohomish 0: At Edmonds, Edmonds-Woodway used a strong front-line attack en route to a 25-14, 25-20, 25-13 non-league victory. E-W’s Leigh Fishbank had 26 assists and seven digs. Teammates Katy Olson and Haley Scott combined for 11 kills, seven digs and one block-kill. Natalie Kaltbrunner led Snohomish with 19 digs and three aces. E-W improved to 2-0 overall and Snohomish fell to 2-1.

Monroe 3, Mountlake Terrace 1: At Mountlake Terrace, Kaitlyn Drew had four aces and 39 assists, Megan Birch had 12 kills, Kylin Munoz had 23 kills and Kendal Munoz had six blocks to lead Monroe (3-0 overall) to the 25-11, 25-21, 23-25, 25-13 non-league win. For Mountlake Terrace (1-1), Leah Lechtenberg had 11 kills and 17 digs, Christine Jenson had 23 assists and Jenna Donohue had seven kills.

Jackson 3, Lake Stevens 1: At Mill Creek, Christy Cain and Leigh-Ann Haataja combined for 30 kills to lead Jackson (1-1 overall) to the 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 non-league win. Haley Sharpe had 39 assists for the Timberwolves. Marchelle Bostic led Lake Stevens (0-3) with 17 assists while teammate Ashley Kelly-Norling had five blocks.

Lynnwood 3, Arlington 0: At Lynnwood, Jessica Barlow had 21 kills, Laycee Hill had 20 assists and Katie Thurston had nine digs for Lynnwood (3-0 overall), which won the non-confernce match 26-24, 25-18, 25-12. Kristin Wright had 33 digs and Breanna Covey had six kills for the Eagles (1-2).

Cascade 3, Glacier Peak 0: At Snohomish, Esther No had eight digs to go along with Chelsea Nelson’s five aces in Cascade’s 25-13, 25-14, 25-13 sweep of Glacier Peak. Jamie Armintrout added 17 assists for the Bruins (1-2 overall) and Danielle Love contributed with seven blocks. Glacier Peak (0-2) was led by Richelle Hoover’s nine assists and four aces.

Stanwood 3, Mariner 1: At Everett, Chelsea Campbell had 35 assists for Stanwood (3-0 overall) in the 25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22 non-league victory over Mariner (0-3). Teammate Rachelle Dowery had 12 kills and Kelsey Kanehen had five aces. Julianne Fullmer had six blocks for Mariner.

Everett 3, Meadowdale 1: At Lynnwood, Mollie Postma had 25 assists and four aces, helping Everett (2-1 overall) defeat Meadowdale (0-2) in four sets, 22-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 in the non-league match. Everett had additional help from Alex MacCormac and Ally Lund, combining for 33 digs and 13 kills. Meadowdale’s Lynsey Rohrbach had seven kills and Megan Nelson contributed with 23 assists.

Cedarcrest 3, Sultan 0: At Sultan, Hannah Smythe of Cedarcrest had 11 kills and three aces in a 25-9, 25-9, 25-15 Cascade Conference victory. Teammate Shannon Bailey had 11 kills and Lindsey Smith had 27 assists in what was the inaugural match of both team’s season.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Granite Falls 0: At Granite Falls, Archbishop Murphy (1-0 in league and overall) swept the Cascade Conference match 25-15, 25-13, 25-8 against Granite Falls (0-1). Moresa Moore had seven kills and Brennan Johnson added nine digs for the Tigers.

King’s 3, Coupeville 1: At Shoreline, Rosie Boggs had 12 kills, Dionna Kirton had 15 kills, Anna Cesari had 25 assists and four aces and Meagan Foote had 11 digs to lead King’s (1-0 league and overall) to the 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15 Cascade Conference victiry. For Coupeville (0-1, 1-1), Julie Huddelston had 19 assists, Linde Martins had 16 kills and nine digs, Kassie Lawson had 11 digs and Michelle Riddle had six digs.

South Whidbey 3, Lakewood 0: At Marysville, South Whidbey (1-0 league and overall) defeated Lakewood (0-1) in three straight sets, 25-23, 26-24, and 25-17 in the Cascade Conference match. Lakewood’s Liliya Kibitskaya set a school record with 25 digs. She also added eight kills to go with Sarah Boe’s 15 digs for the Cougars.

Shoreline Christian 3, Mt. Vernon Christian 0: At Mt. Vernon, Anne Marie Visser had 10 service aces and seven assists in the 25-15, 25-14, 25-6 Northwest 1A/2B League victory. Megan Bauman had 11 digs for Shoreline Christian ( 1-0 league, 2-0 overall).

Marysville-Pilchuck C team 3, Grace Academy 0: At Marysville, The Marysville-Pilchuck C team defeated Grace Academy (0-2 overall) 25-14, 25-13, 25-6 in non-league play.
