It’s never too early to start thinking about the 2010 high school football season. This week as I was coming up with story ideas for our prep preview section (which will most likely come out in early September) I checked Scout.com to see how our top local prospects are rated.
According to Scout.com’s Washington state Class of 2011 ratings, Archbishop Murphy defensive end/tight end Tani Tupou is the fifth-best recruit in the state. Tupou (6-foot-2.5, 260 pounds) earned Herald All-Area second team and Associated Press 2A all-state first team honors last season when he helped Murphy advance to the Class 2A state semifinals. He has verbally committed to the University of Washington, which was the first program to offer Tupou a scholarship, way back in June 2009.
Tupou is a four-star recruit based on Scout.com’s five-star scale. The state’s only five-star recruit is Skyline wide receiver Kasen Williams.
Stanwood offensive tackle Dexter Charles (6-5, 270 pounds) has also verbally committed to Washington. Charles has received offers from most Pac-10 schools, Stanwood coach Aaron Cupp said. Charles is a two-star recruit, according to Scout.com.
Other local players who appear prominently in Scout.com’s ‘11 ratings:
*Lakewood QB Justin Lane (two stars)
*Archbishop Murphy DT/OL Julius Tevaga (two stars)
