Seedings announced for high school basketball state tournaments

Who, when and where area teams are playing in the state regional round.

Sixteen local high school basketball teams are bound for state tournaments and they now know their matchups for the regional round.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced seedings and matchups for boys and girls tournaments Sunday.

Six area teams are guaranteed berths into next week’s Hardwood Classics by virtue of top-eight seeds. The remaining 10 will play in loser-out games. Regional games take place Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at various locations.

The Class 4A, 2A, 1A and 2B tournaments feature 16 teams. The 3A and 1B tournaments have 20. Each bracket’s Nos. 1-8 seeds face off Friday or Saturday with a chance to advance into Thursday, Feb. 29’s state quarterfinals. The losers start in the round of 12 the previous day. In the 4A, 2A, 1A and 2B tournaments, the Nos. 9-16 seeds matchup Friday or Saturday for a spot in the round of 12. In 3A and 1B, the Nos. 13-20 seeds matchup in the opening round Tuesday with a chance to advance into second-round matchups against seeds 9-12 on Friday or Saturday. The winners in the second round advance to the round of 12.

No. 15 Puyallup vs. No. 10 Jackson at Shorewood High School, Friday, 8 p.m.

CLASS 3A

Opening Round

No. 19 Marysville Getchell at No. 14 Kelso, Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Second Round

No. 5 Mountlake Terrace vs. No. 4 O’Dea at Bellevue College, Friday, 8 p.m.

No. 19 Marysville Getchell/No. 14 Kelso winner winner at Arlington, Saturday 6 p.m.

CLASS 1A

Opening round

No. 16 Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) vs. No. 9 King’s at Shorewood High School, Saturday, 4 p.m.

No. 13 Sultan vs. No. 12 Motesano at Tumwater High School, Saturday, 4 p.m.

CLASS 1B

Second round

No. 17 Mount Vernon Christian/No. 16 Columbia Adventist winner vs. No. 9 Tulalip Heritage at Arlington High School, Saturday, 8 p.m.
