BURNABY, B.C. — The Everett Silvertips’ postseason run came to an abrupt end Monday with a 6-3 loss to the Vancouver Giants in Game 6 of a first round WHL playoffs series.
The victory sealed a 4-2 series win for eighth-seeded Giants, who delivered the biggest playoff upset in WHL history by taking down the Western Conference’s top seed.
Everett finished 47 points ahead of Vancover in the regular season standings. The largest gap by an upset winner was previously 37.
Zack Ostapchuk, Adam Hall, Damian Palmieri, Connor Horning, Alex Cotton and Mazden Leslie each scored a goal for the Giants, who jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Ostapchuk added four assists.
Ben Hemmerling, Ryan Hofer and Jonny Lambos netted goals the Silvertips.
Hofer’s sixth goal of the series cut Everett’s deficit to 4-2 at the 10:00 mark of the third period, but Vancover answered back with two goals to pull away.
Jesper Vikman stopped 22 of 25 shots for the Giants.
Braden Holt had 32 saves in 38 chances for the Silvertips.
