EVERETT — Seth Jarvis and Mason Mannek scored first-period goals and the Portland Winterhawks knocked the Everett Silvertips out of first place in the U.S. Division with a 4-1 win Friday night at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Portland (9-3-0-1) entered the game just a point behind Everett (9-4-0-0) in the standings, but took over first place with the win.
Silvertips defenseman Parker Hendren scored his first goal of the season on assists from Jackson Berezowski and Gianni Fairbrother in the second period.
Lane Gilliss and Matthew Quigley added goals for the Winterhawks.
Dustin Wolf stopped 22 of 26 shots and Keegan Karki stopped all four shots he faced in relief for Everett.
Joel Hofer stopped 28 of 29 shots for Portland.
The Silvertips return to action at 7:05 p.m. Saturday with a home game against the Kamloops Blazers.
