Snohomish dominates

LYNNWOOD – The Snohomish boys and girls cross country teams flexed some early-season muscles with victories at a four-team event Wednesday at Lynndale Park in Lynnwood.

The Snohomish girls, in fact, recorded a perfect score of 15 by taking the top five places. The two-time defending Class 4A state champions were led by Amanda Stopa, who finished the hilly and wet 2.85-mile course in 19 minutes, 12 seconds. She was followed by Alyssa Modress, Kara Sporrong, Ellie Bonner and Rachel Forrest. The five Panthers were separated by just 34 seconds.

Cascade finished second with 64 points. Monroe (74 points) and Lynnwood (91) placed third and fourth, respectively.

The Snohomish boys took five of the top seven spots in a race won by Cascade’s Ben Jones, who recorded a time of 16:12. Steven Mason and John Pedack finished second and third, respectively for the Panthers, who compiled 23 points.

Volleyball

Mount Vernon 3, Edmonds-Woodway 0: Tara Cunningham contributed 17 kills and 16 digs to the Bulldogs’ 20-25, 28-26, 11-24, 25-14, 15-13 non-league victory. Erin Greenwood led the Warriors with 18 kills.

Swimming

Jackson 108, Oak Harbor 62: Jackson’s Emily Rogers won the 100-yard fly with a state-meet qualifying time of 1:01.87 and also prevailed in the 100 breaststroke to lead Jackson to a non-conference victory. Oak Harbor’s Missy McIntyre won the 50- and 100 freestyle races.

At Mill Creek

Kamiak 7, Lynnwood 0: In just their second match as doubles teammates, Kamiak’s Steve Johnston and Zak Stoltz posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles in a Wesco South match played in a continual rain shower.
