Thanks to a strong team effort, the Kamiak boys golf team finished with a second-place trophy at the 4A boys state golf tournament which concluded Wednesday afternoon at Indian Summer Country Club in Olympia.
Daniel Kim was the top performer for the Knights, finishing in ninth place after a two-day score of 150. Brandon Suh (153, tied for 13th), Brandon Yoon (160, tied for 32nd), Aaron Choi (163, tied for 45th) and Luke Strand (164, tied for 48th) all contributed to the top-two finish. Bellarmine Prep was the team winner, finishing 26 strokes ahead of Kamiak, which won the team title the last time the tournament took place in 2019.
Archbishop Murphy’s Nick Ennis was the top local individual finisher across all classifications. Ennis fired a 71 to finish with a two-day total of 144, good for a tie for fourth place at the 2A boys state tournament at Capitol City Golf Club in Olympia.
Archbishop Murphy’s Eric Leonen finished in a tie for 12th with a two-day total of 151, nine shots behind winner Zach Miller of White River. As a team, the Wildcats finished in fourth place behind winner Burlington-Edison.
In the 3A boys tournament at Liberty Lake Golf Course, Stanwood’s Conrad Chisman posted his second straight 71 for a two-day total of 142 and a strong tied-for-fifth-place finish.
Shorewood’s Ben Borgida (143, tied for eighth) and Snohomish’s Palmer Mutcheson (145, tied for 12th) also had strong showings. Bishop Blanchet’s Max Herendeen fired a blistering 63 for a two-day total of 131 to capture the individual title.
Lakewood sisters Kiana and Malia Schroeder both posted top-10 finishes at the 2A girls state tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Club.
Kiana Schroeder placed sixth with a two-day total of 154, 13 shots behind winner Brooke Gelinas of White River. Malia Schroeder finished with a two-day total of 160, good for 10th place. Cedarcrest’s Charlotte Griffin finished in eighth place with a score of 157.
