Washington Stealth assistant coach Dan Stroup joined Rich Kilgour and John Tucker as the 2010 inductees to the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame Monday afternoon.
The 2010 class, the league’s fifth, features two players (Stroup and Kilgour) who were elected to the Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.
Stroup, a 13-year veteran who ranks 12th on the NLL’s all-time scoring list with 529 points, played for six teams and earned a reputation for dependability.
He missed just four games in his lengthy career.
Stroup won three titles in Toronto (1999, 2000, 2002) and one with Colorado (2006).
“This is amazing. I was shocked and surprised”, Stroup said in a statement from the league upon being notified that he would be entering the Hall of Fame. “I never could have imagined this. I am just getting over retiring and not playing, and this is incredible.”
The 6-foot, 195-pound forward scored a career-high 70 points (34 goals, 36 assists) with Vancouver in 2003 and finished his career with 294 goals. He retired after scoring nine goals in 14 games for Portland in 2009.
“I’d like to remembered from my playing career as a good team guy. In a sport like ours, that’s what’s it all about. You can’t win with just all-stars. Teams are made of 23 guys”, Stroup said.
