It wasn’t going to be easy. The Connecticut Sun had won every game they had played at home this season and had beaten the Seattle Storm seven straight games in Connecticut going into Friday night’s game.

Despite the challenge and the Sun (6-3) holding a lead through the first 39 minutes of the game, the Storm still had a chance to steal one on the road in the games waning seconds.

But it wasn’t to be, the Sun held on to hand the Storm a 75-70 defeat.

The loss dropped the Storm to 4-3 on the season.

Storm forward Swin Cash did her part, scoring 25 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Sun.

Tina Charles continued her assault on the stat books, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Connecticut,

The Storm trailed by 19 points in the third quarter, but cut the lead to just three with only seconds remaining. Point guard Sue Bird missed a three-pointer with just over five seconds left that would have tied the game.

“I thought we got some stops defensively and I thought that Swin was really key in those runs. She really took it upon herself to take charge and get a couple of three-point plays. We scored off of our defense a few times and then found ourselves back in the game,” Storm head coach Brian Agler said.

The Storm can take a little bit of confidence from being able to come back, but it was the third time in a row on the road that they have dug themselves a hole.

“Of course, there is something to be said about a team that can come back, but there also needs to be something said about why we are falling behind like that,” Bird said. “I think that is what we are going to focus on in trying to improve. However, if you give yourself a chance to win on the road like we did tonight, like I said, there is something to be said about that.

The Storm continue their road trip on Sunday in Washington when they face the Mystics.
