PORTLAND — Alex Swetlikoff scored three goals, two in the second period as the Everett Silvertips broke open a close game and cruised to a 5-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks for their fifth straight victory to open the season.
After a scoreless first period, Everett got on the board when Olen Zellweger potted a goal on an assist from Hunter Campbell early in the second period.
Aidan Litke then slipped a shot past Koen MacInnes at 5:40 in the second as Portland pulled even.
Swetlikoff gave the lead back to Everett with a goal on assists from Austin Roest and Jonny Lambos at 15:40 in the period, then scored again on assists from Michal Gut and Aidan Sutter at 19:58.
Beau Courtney scored his first goal of the season for the Silvertips in the third period, before Swetlikoff capped Everett’s scoring with his final goal at 15:36.
MacInnes finished with 24 saves for Everett (5-0-0-0).
Gabe Klassen added a late goal for Portland (3-3-0-1).
