The Athlete of the Week nominees for Feb. 27-March 5. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Kayla Lorenz | Lynnwood | Girls Basketball

Lorenz, a junior, scored a team-high 25 points as the Royals topped West Seattle 47-45 on Feb. 25 to clinch a berth to the Class 3A Hardwood Classic at the Tacoma Dome. She won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Feb. 20-26 by claiming 807 (48.2%) of 1,674 votes.

This week’s nominees

Parker Baumann | Shorecrest | Boys Basketball

Baumann, a senior, earned second-team all-tournament honors at the Class 3A Boys Hardwood Classic. He averaged a double-double with 21.7 points and 11.3 rebounds to go with 2.7 assists over three games. His efforts included 20 points and 15 rebounds in the Scots’ round-of-12 win over Rainier Beach on March 1.

Vivienne Berrett | Stanwood | Girls Basketball

Berrett, a senior, earned first-team all-tournament honors at the Class 3A Girls Hardwood Classic. She averaged 19.8 points on 58.6% (34-of-57) shooting from the field and added 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocks over four games while helping the Spartans claim a program-best fourth-place trophy. Berrett hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer in Stanwood’s consolation bracket semifinals win over Lincoln (Tacoma) on March 3.

Zaveon Jones | Mountlake Terrace | Boys Basketball

Jones, a junior, earned second-team all-tournament honors at the Class 3A Boys Hardwood Classic. He averaged 15.3 points on 54.5% (18-of-33) shooting for the field and added 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and one steal over three games. His efforts included 24 points and 11 rebounds in the Hawks’ quarterfinals loss to O’Dea on March 2.

Gia Powell | Meadowdale | Girls Basketball

Powell, a junior, earned second-team all-tournament honors at the Class 3A Girls Hardwood Classic. She averaged 23.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 2.7 assists over three games. Her efforts included 32 points in the Mavericks’ consolation bracket semifinals loss to Lincoln (Tacoma) on March 3 and nine steals in Meadowdale’s round-of-12 win over Bonney Lake on March 1.

Jenna Villa | Arlington | Girls Basketball

Villa, a senior, earned first-team all-tournament honors at the Class 3A Girls Hardwood Classic. She averaged 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists, 1.3 blocks, 1.3 steals and shot 95.8% (23-of-24) from the free-throw line over three games while helping the Eagles earn a fifth-place trophy.
