The Athlete of the Week nominees for March 27-April 2. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Axel Lopez | Cascade | Boys Soccer

Lopez, a freshman, notched the game-winning goal to lift the Bruins to a 1-0 victory over Stanwood on March 21. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for March 20-26 by claiming 332 (27%) of 1,228 votes.

This week’s nominees

Abigail Danielson | Stanwood | Girls Track and Field

Danielson, a senior, finished first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 100 hurdles at the Eastmont Twilight Invitational on March 31. Her 46.29-second pace in the 300 hurdles ranks second in Class 3A, according to athletic.net.

Heaven Kim | Kamiak | Girls Golf

Kim, a junior, fired a 39 to earn medalist honors in a nine-hole Wesco 4A league match at Walter Hall Golf Course on March 29.

Cooper McBride | Arlington | Baseball

McBride, a senior, struck out 11 and allowed just one earned run in a complete game as the Eagles beat Archbishop Murphy 9-1 on March 27. He also had a double, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored in a 4-1 win over Archbishop Murphy on March 29, and had two hits and two RBI in Arlington’s 10-6 victory over Lake Stevens on March 31.

Maya Mesa | Glacier Peak | Softball

Mesa, a junior, went 4-for-4 with a home run and six RBI and struck out five in two innings of relief in the Grizzlies 20-1 victory over Everett on March 30. She also struck out eight in a combined no-hitter and added a home run and two RBI in Glacier Peak’s 18-0 win over Stanwood on March 28.

Andrew Montero | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys Soccer

Montero, a junior, netted a hat trick in the Warriors’ 5-1 victory over Stanwood on March 31.

Shukurani Ndayiraglje | Everett | Boys Track and Field

Ndayiraglje, a junior, won the high jump, the triple jump and finished second in the long jump in the Seagulls’ three-team meet against Arlington and Edmonds-Woodway on March 30. His marks of 43 feet, 4.75 inches in the long jump and 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump both rank first in Class 3A this season, according to athletic.net.

Rodney Perez | Marysville Pilchuck | Boys Golf

Perez, a junior, hit a hole-in-one 150-yard, par-3 seventh hole at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville during the Tomahawks’ match against Arlington, Lynnwood and Marysville Getchell on March 29.

Sara Skold | Monroe | Girls Tennis

Skold, a junior, went 2-0 over the week in her No. 1 singles matches while helping the Bearcats to a pair of victories. She topped Lynnwood’s Odko Altangerel 6-1, 6-1 on March 27 and Marysville Getchell’s Lilly Rounds 6-0, 6-2 on March 29.
