The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced its Academic State Champions for spring sports today, and lots of local teams (11!) earned top honors.
The local winning squads are:
Edmonds-Woodway baseball (Class 4A)
Archbishop Murphy softball (2A)
Archbishop Murphy boys golf (2A)
Grace Academy boys golf (1B)
King’s girls golf (1A)
Stanwood boys track and field (4A)
South Whidbey boys track and field (2A)
King’s boys track and field (1A)
Grace Academy boys track and field (1B)
King’s girls track and field (1A)
North Sound Christian girls track and field (1B)
Congrats to all of the winners. It takes a lot of work and time management to simultaneously succeed in athletics and academics. These student-athletes are setting a great example. In particular, it’s incredible that four of the state’s six boys track and field academic state-champion teams are from this area (Stanwood, South Whidbey, King’s, Grace Academy).
