The Archbishop Murphy baseball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Northwest A League with a pair of late inning victories over Orcas Island and Friday Harbor.

Ben Shively hit a single to center field to score Nick Karthas in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over the Vikings April 1 at Maltby Community Park.

Archbishop Murphy senior pitcher Kevin Smith allowed only one hit and picked up the victory.

The Wildcats (4-0 in the league, 6-0 overall) then took over first place in the league with an 8-7 eight-inning triumph over Friday Harbor April 4 at Maltby.

Junior Jeff Arkell was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded to score teammate Patrick Ackerman.
