Larway earns curling honor

Joel Larway has been named USA Curling’s top male athlete for 2004. Larway, who curls out of Seattle’s Granite Curling Club, played a key role at the second position on brother Jason Larway’s Seattle rink, helping the team to a first-place showing at the Washington State Playdowns and at the 2004 USA Curling Men’s National Championship in Grand Forks, N.D. He also was a national champion in 1992 and 2001.

One of his team’s goals for the coming season is to win the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in February, Larway said.

This is the first time Larway has been named USA Curling’s Athlete of the Year.
