BOTHELL —Many of the orphaned animals at the no-kill Homeward Pet Adoption Center have taken a detour before going home for good with their new families. Homeward spokesperson Peggy Noll says, “We’re putting our best paw forward. We will celebrate our move to Woodinville with a grand opening for the general public!”
The center is holding an Open House on February 15th from noon to 6pm. Festivities include shelter tours and refreshments, said Erin Lippincott, shelter director.
The relocation was supported by generous local donors and businesses.
“Kelly Moore Paint of Lynnwood, Acordia Northwest, and Real Networks have been extremely generous with relocation support,” Noll said.
Lippincott says that the move was necessary for the Pet Adoption Center to reach its goal of offering more services to the people and animals in the community.
“We were operating at a disadvantage because of our facilities. Our cats and offices were at the Bothell Country Village and our dogs at Woodinville’s Cascade Kennels. The move to the larger building in Woodinville is a tremendous blessing for our Adoption and Education programs.”
The new shelter is located at 18800 Woodinville-Snohomish Road behind the Clearwater Spa Building. Once the move and name change are completed the staff will handle both dog and cat adoptions from the same building.
“We’ll continue to provide the services that we do now, but they’re all available under the same ‘woof’. By having our pet intake center, clinical facilities, and adoption counselors all in the same building we not only make pet adoption more convenient for the adoptive families, but less stressful for the orphaned animals in our care,” Noll said.
The Homeward Pet Adoption Center, formerly known as Hooterville, originally began operation in Woodinville in 1990. The Hooterville name was a reference to the show “Petticoat Junction” as the original shelter location was near railroad tracks. They have operated at Bothell Country Village for the past 4 years since their move in 1998.
Homeward President Patricia Allen-Escalona said “After all these years we felt it was time to have a name that reflected our mission more. Not many people remember the Hooterville in Petticoat Junction anymore and the old name was misleading due to a certain restaurant chain in the area. As we are moving our location we think the time is right to change name too.”
Businesses or individuals interested in helping with the move or making donations of cash, goods or services are encouraged to call the shelter at 425-488-4444 or visit www.homewardpet.org.
