Hop on down to the Everett Civic Auditorium where Village Theatre Pied Piper will present “Max &Ruby,” its last show of the season. The family-oriented play, performed by the New York-based TheatreworksUSA, will take place at 2 p.m. May 23.

This is the first time TheatreworksUSA’s production of “Max &Ruby” has been presented in the Pacific Northwest. The show features the sweet and charming characters young children know from books and TV and who represent a positive model of siblings resolving differences in respectful and supportive ways.

“Kids grow up so quickly and there is so much pushed upon them. Presenting a delightful family show like ‘Max &Ruby,’ which is an entertaining crowd-pleaser and still retains childhood innocence, seemed like a perfect close to our 2009-10 Pied Piper season,” Manager Erica Weir said in a press release.

The plot centers on Ruby, a 7-year-old rabbit, who decides to put on a show for her beloved Grandma, enlisting the dubious help of her little brother Max and recruiting her Bunny Scout friends for assistance.

The musical is based on the top-rated Nickelodeon television show, which was in turn inspired by author Rosemary Wells’ “Max &Ruby” books.

The show is aimed for children ages 3-10 and their parents. Short scenes and recognizable characters will engage kids while the creative costumes, visuals and music will appeal to the whole family.

In addition to the public performance, school matinee performances will also take place at 10 a.m. and noon May 24 at the Everett Civic Auditorium and May 25 at Theatre at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
