National team interested in Jackson grad

Jackson graduate Brent Lillibridge, the University of Washington’s starting center fielder, has been invited to try out for the U.S. national team, USA Baseball announced last week.

Lillibridge, a 19-year-old freshman is the nation’s leading freshman hitter with a .409 average. The U.S. team trials are scheduled for June 21-27 in Tucson, Ariz. The 22-member squad will be selected from among the 36 invitees. The team will compete in this summer’s Pan-American Games.

The last Husky to play for the national team was outfielder Chris Magruder, who was a member of the 1997 squad.
