Info session on drug awareness
The Edmonds School District is offering an informational session for parents only on drugs. “The Bong Biz” takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 in the Edmonds-Woodway High School Great Hall. Daniel J. Bissonnette will discuss the effects of drugs, how kids get them, what they look like and how they are used. Bissonnette also will answer questions. Bingo fund-raiser at E-W
The Associated Student Body at Edmonds-Woodway High School is sponsoring a bingo fund-raiser from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in the Edmonds-Woodway Great Hall. All proceeds will benefit student activities. Entry is free and bingo cards cost $1 each. There will be entertainment and food available. Prizes include a variety of gift certificates and items from local businesses.
Jones Soda founder at PEF event
Peter van Stolk, founder and chief executive for Jones Soda Company will be the guest speaker at 7 a.m. April 29 at Edmonds-Woodway High School for the 18th annual Edmonds Public Education Foundation Business Breakfast. Rummage for football boosters
The Mountlake Terrace High School Football Boosters is organizing a rummage sale to take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30 in the parking lot of Sorelli’s Pizza and Video Mirage, located at 22402 44th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace.
Awards give hope to cancer survivors
The Great West Division of the American Cancer Society, the nation’s leading voluntary health organization, has established a scholarship program that will award tuition scholarships for young cancer survivors pursuing higher education.
The scholarships will be granted in June for the 2005-06 academic year. Recipients will receive $2,500 each to be used for tuition expenses. Residents of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming who had a cancer diagnosis before age 21 and a GPA of at least 2.5 or equivalent are eligible. Due to limited resources, the American Cancer Society is not able to award scholarships to all cancer survivors who apply.

North Sound Christian Schools, a newly formed nonprofit Christian school district composed of Snohomish County Christian Schools, Christian Life School, Heritage Christian School, North Seattle Christian School and Fairview Christian School, is currently accepting applications for enrollment for the 2005-06 school year. NSCS has education for elementary and secondary levels including programs within the schools for remedial students and for the college bound.

SCCS to sing at Carnegie Hall
Snohomish County Christian School Secondary Choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in a select choral Masterworks Performance Concert Series in May.
The choral students will join with other singers from around the country for a five-day Manhattan residency from May 24-28 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. They will then participate in a performance including works by Gabriel Faure and Felix Mendelssohn in legendary Carnegie Hall accompanied by full symphony orchestra and professional soloists with guest conductor Dr. James Melton at the podium.
Local student on dean’s list
Brier resident Brittany Johnson was named to the winter 2005 dean’s list at Pacific Lutheran University. Students must receive a 3.5 grade-point average or higher to earn this recognition.
