StoryBook presents ‘Red Riding Hood’

Published 10:25 am Monday, March 3, 2008

The enchanting world of StoryBook Theater comes to the Everett PUD Auditorium for two weekends of performances of “Little Red Riding Hood,” an original musical comedy for very young audiences and the whole family.

Can man (or little girl) and wolf be friends, even when they’re starving? Join Little Red and any number of strangers as they each try to find Grandmother’s house. Little Red is totally self-confident and the wolf is a vegetarian in this non-frightening and hilarious look at the real meaning of friendship.

Over the past six years StoryBook Theater has developed a reputation for entertaining, inexpensive theater for families with young children. The company presents wacky, original musical fairy tales, created specifically for very young audiences — ages 3 through 9 — and the whole family. The 55-minute performances, designed to introduce children to the joy and magic of live theatre, feature adult professional actors, accompanied by an on-stage musician. After the performance the actors answer questions from the youngsters in the audience.

StoryBook Theater is a production of Kirkland-based Studio East, Training for the Performing Arts. The original adaptations are written and directed by Lani Brockman, Artistic Director at Studio East. The music and lyrics are created by Kirkland musical artist, Susan Bardsley, who also serves as accompanist for most performances.

“Little Red Riding Hood” takes the stage at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 and 26, and 1 &3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Everett PUD Auditorium, located in the Snohomish County PUD Building at 2320 California Street in downtown Everett. All tickets are $8, available at Studio East at 877-827-1100, or at the door, subject to availability.
