Two charged in Everett apartment shooting death

EVERETT — Two Everett men are now charged with first-degree murder in connection with a Sept. 12 shooting death at a south Everett apartment complex.
Mark Wade Knight, 24, and Ty Anthony Wilshusenc, 23, both played a role in the death of Bruce John MacAulay, 30, Snohomish County prosecutors alleged in Superior Court papers filed Monday.
The pair originally were arrested for investigation of second-degree murder. Wilshusen allegedly shot MacAulay after Knight attempted to beat the man with a baseball bat, and wound up having the weapon turned on him, deputy prosecutor Craig Matheson alleged.
The killing allegedly occurred over a dispute about stolen money and marijuana, according to court papers.
Mark Krandel, park planning supervisor, Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department, will talk about progress on portions of the trail from Lake Stevens to 152nd Street in Arlington and from Arlington to the Skagit County line.
The first seven miles of the trail, from Snohomish to Lake Stevens, were paved by 1991. The remaining $1 million from a state grant the county received to extend the trail to Arlington may need to be repaid if the money isn’t committed by the end of the year.
When completed, the 44-mile-long trail will stretch from Skagit County to the King County line.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies, using police dogs and a helicopter, were unable to locate a man a deputy had tried to pull over on a traffic stop about 10:50 p.m. Saturday.
Instead, the driver fled, running two red lights and crashing through a fence before he and his passenger fled on foot, sheriff’s officials said.
The two men ran north along the lake and deputies captured the passenger, but were unable to locate the driver, who is a suspect in two Everett shootings.
No other details were available Monday from the sheriff’s office or Everett police.
Jan Roberts, 52, was treated at Valley General Hospital for head injuries, and her 1989 Subaru was totaled in Monday’s accident.
The Washington State Patrol reported that 21-year-old Michael McCourt of Monroe, driving a 1971 Ford pickup pulling a utility trailer, stopped on the highway just south of Monroe to make a left turn onto North High Rock Road. Roberts stopped behind him, but a dump truck behind her, driven by Wayne Brester, 27, of Bellingham, failed to stop and pushed her into McCourt’s truck.
The men were not injured, and their trucks had minimal damage, the State Patrol said.
