Officials aren’t listening

Did we not just go to the polls and vote for Initiative 722? Somehow I was under the impression that we had voted heavily in favor of this measure. If so, how come we are being told by the county executive and the assessor that we as a group don’t matter (“Drewel vetoes road-tax provision: Rejecting I-722 limit, he urges more money to fight congestion,” news story, Dec. 6)? Are they running our lives for us?
Come on, people, get real, if this is the way our wishes are being received by these two, let’s get rid of them. I mean now. The reason they are willing to say that they want and will raise your property taxes for roads 6 percent is because they have become so complacent with the knowledge that most of us will just accept their decision without a real complaint.
Executive Bob Drewel claims he wants the additional funds to enable more money to go toward transportation problems, right? The county and contractors have been working on the Airport Road widening for approximately 18 months. The corner of this road and Holly Drive has been a real work of art. Three times the corner has been constructed and reconstructed. The power poles have been set, moved, removed and reset. Curbs have been poured, torn out, reformed and poured again. Let’s face it, this county agency could not pour water from a pair of rubber boots with the directions imprinted on the heel. Now the county executive wants to give them more of your dollars to waste.
I for one am really tired of having elected officials tell me that they know what is good for us. Let’s get our desires straight in their minds. We may have thought we accomplished this with I-722, but it is evident that they have decided they know best. So come on, let’s get the ball rolling to move these two out of office – and any others who don’t get the picture.
