They should have to obey the law

I am commenting about the April 30 letter to the editor regarding Community Transit, local police and other state transit vehicles speeding in downtown Everett (“Obeying traffic laws: No one cares about the speed limit”).

I have complained on several occasions that the CT and Everett Transit buses are making illegal left-hand turns, cutting people off and speeding freely without being pulled over. I have seen them pass a police car only to be ignored. What is wrong with this picture? There have been times that I have had to swerve into other lanes to avoid being hit – all because of the posted sign on the back of the bus that states they have the right of way. Well, what if I am on the side of them? They just come on over regardless of who is already there. I would let them hit me – only I actually care about my children who are always in my truck with me.

How about the school buses? I have complained about my daughter’s high school bus running stop signs. The answer from the transportation department is, “If you don’t like the way the bus driver drives, then we will stop going out to your area and picking up all the kids.” Is this an appropriate answer for someone breaking the law and risking the lives of innocent children? No. Start following the rules and thinking before you get behind the wheel. The laws are there for everyone, not just the people that drive personal vehicles.
