Simple solution to legality question

Published 9:00 pm Tuesday, June 19, 2001

I think the city of Everett should donate the land the Ten Commandments sit upon to a non-profit organization. The Elks would be a good start, but I suggest a new organization – dedicated to the cause. How about the “Ten Commandments Society”? They could hold fundraisers to pay for city taxes on the 2 feet by 4 feet plot of land.

The city then would not own the land. The Commandments stay, legally. When asked by the ACLU, the city only need to respond: “We don’t own that plot of land, we have no control there.”
