We should consider the gift of health

Our Pilgrim fathers fled their homeland some 380 years ago to escape an oppressive monarchy and its ties to the church. Now we have the President wavering on the use of stem cells in research that could ultimately help thousands of people worldwide conquer diseases that cripple their lives because the American College of Cardinals, the pope and the religious right in this country believes it is wrong to use embryos that will be discarded to help in this fight!

Surely the fight against these diseases and the lives that will be saved count for more than this tissue that will be destroyed. Those that supposedly “sanctify all life” must realize that the gift of health that may result from this research is far more valuable than that never-to-be-used embryo.
