Shorewood boys tennis team beats Jackson 4-3 in Wesco South showdown

MILL CREEK – Shorewood, last season’s Western Conference 4A South Division champion, showed it hasn’t lost a beat in the new look Wesco South by defeating last season’s Wesco 3A runnerup Jackson 4-3 Friday at Jackson High School in boys tennis action.

With the victory Shorewood improves to 2-0 in league and overall. Jackson is 1-1.

Shorewood took control of the meet early by taking three of four singles matches.

In No. 2 singles, Justin Michelson overcame a first-set loss (4-6) to Jackson’s David Wong to win the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4.

In No. 1 doubles, brothers Kris and Kory Pope of Jackson stayed undefeated and kept the Wolves alive in the match cutting the Shorewood lead to 3-2.

But Shorewood’s No. 2 doubles team of Keith Schneider and Steve McCall finished off a very good Jackson team 6-0 and 6-3 to clinch the victory.

Meadowdale 7, Everett 0: In a match that at one point was tied 4-4 in the third set, Brandon Lucero defeated Brandon Wickland to lead the Mavericks to the Wesco South Division victory.
