Mount Vernon rips Monroe 51-6 in football

MONROE – Mount Vernon started off the new Wesco North conference with a victory over Monroe 51-6 in the Saturday afternoon matchup at Monroe Stadium.
Quarterback Kyle Kendrick played well in the season opener for Mount Vernon.
Kendrick completed six of eight pass attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs. Kendrick also rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown.
“Kendrick played well today,” said Dan Teeter, a Mount Vernon coach. “When things broke down, he was able to scramble and make something out of nothing.”
Mount Vernon rattled off the first 51 points, including 22 in each of the first two quarters, until Monroe’s Jared Wood ran 60 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter for the Bearcats.

Archbishop Murphy 65, La Salle 30: Archbishop Murphy rushed for a team total 489 yards in its first official football game. Ben Weiss gained 242 yards and teammate Axel Wolff rushed for 81 yards on nine carries.

Darrington 21, Life Christian 20: Ronnie McCoy’s 2-yard touchdown run tied the score and Jeremy Cade kicked the extra point to give the Loggers the victory.
McCoy carried the ball 24 times for 142 yards.
Darrington’s Bryce Boyd caught a 36-yard TD pass from Matt Reece and Jake Wicken retruned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown for the Loggers.

Marysville-Pilchuck 45, Stanwood 42: Marysville-Pilchuck won a Wesco North slugfest Friday night by scoring 25 second-half points that erased a six-point half-time deficit. Stanwood rolled up 379 yards of total offense, thanks in part to Julian Bomar’s 170 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while the Tomahawks finished with 372 total yards.

Lake Stevens Boys Invitational: The Lakewood boys cross country team, behind a 2-3-4 finish by seniors Cameron Hartman, Andy Dewey and Marc Dewey respectively, won the team title with 25 points.
White River was second with 69 points, followed by Cedercrest with 86.
Individual winner Mike Sanyenko guided Sammamish to a fourth place finish with 87 points, while Granite Falls (115 points), Lake Stevens (178) and Monroe (186) rounded out the scoring.

Lake Stevens Girls Invitational: The Lake Stevens girls had three of the top 10 finishers to win its own invitational with 57 points. White River (66 points), Sammamish (73) and Granite Falls (87) followed. Monroe’s Bethany Ojaiatto won the race in a time of 14:32, giving her team fifth place with a team total of 93 points, just ahead of Lakewood (98).

Edmonds Invitational: Kevin Hansen of Shorecrest finished second in the fastest flight at the Edmonds Invitational. Other local top finishers in the flight were Travis Boyd of Kamiak in sixth, Adam Roe of King’s in seventh, Sam Brancheau of Edmonds Woodway in 10th and Adam Schimmer of Meadowdale in 11th place.
