Tomahawks use early pins to get by Knights

MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck used a quick start to make quick work of the Kamiak Knights Monday night.
The Tomahawks (6-3) opened the match with consecutive first-round pins by Drew Zerfing (130-pounds) and Norman Orr (135) and went on to a 52-24 non-conference victory over the Knights (0-4).
“It was a nice start for us,” M-P coach Craig Iversen said. “With this draw start you never know where it’s going to land. It was good to get that momentum.”
A pair of close decision victories by Kamiak’s Josh Yasuda (140) and Jerod Vanriessche (152) kept the Knights in the match early.
At 171 M-P’s Peter Swardz, who has come up short in several close decisions this season, gave the Tommies a comanding 28-6 lead with a first-round pin.
“Peter’s had some tough matches,” Iversen said. “It was good to see him get a win and a pin.”
M-P’s John Hanks, a junior, recorded a first-round pin at 112 to improve to 9-0 on the season.
“(Hanks) has just been really solid for us,” Iversen said.
Cedar Park Christian 96, Grace Academy 48: Brent Norton scored a game-high 30 points for Cedar Park Christian in the non-league game. Grace Academy, up by six after the first period, was led by Josh Short with 14 points.

Masters Touch 58, Skykomish 36: Leading only 21-20 at halftime, Masters Touch came out in a full court press to start the third period and ran away from Skykomish in the second half during the Northwest B League game. Both Kyle Olin and Dave Martson scored 11 points to lead Masters Touch.
