Brandon Eike hit a game-tying two-run homer in the third inning, and Curtis Washington Jr. scored on a wild pitch in the fourth before hitting a two-run shot of his own in the sixth to lead the Everett AquaSox to a 6-4 win against the Eugene Emeralds at PK Park on Wednesday.
Eike and Washington each had two hits and two RBI, and outfielder Jonny Farmelo went 3-for-5. Everett starter Adam Maier allowed seven hits, two walks and two earned runs in five innings to earn his third win of the season.
Eugene took a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from infielder Walker Martin and an RBI single from outfielder Trevor Cohen, but Eike pulled things level in the third with his home run after catcher Josh Caron worked a walk.
Maier pitched a 1-2-3 third inning, and Washington worked his away around the base paths with his first triple of the season in the top of the fourth. The 26-year-old outfielder put the AquaSox ahead 3-2 on the next pitch, scoring from third on a wild pitch.
Washington made a full trip around the bags in his next plate appearance in the sixth. After infielder Austin St. Laurent led off the inning with a single, Washington sent his ninth homer of the season over the left field wall to extend the lead to 5-2.
Eugene struck back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homer from Martin off Everett reliever Jose Geraldo, who retired each of the next five batters he faced to protect the 5-4 lead heading into the eighth inning.
Infielder Carter Dorighi led off the eighth with a walk, and shortstop Felnin Celesten brought him home three batters later on an RBI groundout to provide the insurance run. AquaSox reliever Casey Hintz took over for the final two innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three Emeralds en route to his sixth save of the season.
Everett will face Eugene in a double-header on Thursday, with the first game scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PT.
