Young people received poor treatment

Last week my son, a student at North Middle School, asked me to be a chaperone for his class field trip to the Historic Everett Theatre to see Martin Luther King III. The school had reserved seats for the eighth graders, their teachers and the chaperones. As we gathered to leave, the excitement and anticipation were palpable.
We walked to meet with the marchers from Everett Community College and followed them to the theater. The North students were the last to be allowed in. When the theater was full, 150 students and 20 adults were left standing outside in the cold. One-hundred seventy disappointed and angry students and adults.
The students of North Midlle School learned an important lesson that day. They learned that when Everett ranks people according to importance, kids finish last.
