Writer apologizes for nursing remark

In response to Jodie Bolton’s Jan. 24 letter, (“Healthcare: Registered nurses offended by letter”):

I would like to apologize to all registered nurses for the stupid wording in my letter about medical costs. I did not mean that nurses do only minor tasks.

Two experiences at Stevens Hospital showed how thoroughly and professionally they do major tasks. I was thinking more of office visits in which nurses could diagnose and treat some illnesses as well as (or better than) a doctor. In one instance a nurse correctly diagnosed symptoms of Bell’s Palsy when a doctor mistakenly treated it as a swollen eyeball.

Please accept my apology.
