Problems show need for new members

As I read the article in the Aug. 26 Herald regarding the debate Mukilteo is having with the Coast Guard (“Coast Guard in roof debate”), a disturbing thought came to mind. Perhaps our city officials will decide to spend more hard-earned tax dollars by filing another mindless lawsuit, this time against the Coast Guard!

Our current city council does not listen to people. It doesn’t seem to care about anything but its own agenda, and it doesn’t respond to the will of citizens it was elected to serve. If we can’t trust the council with a simple task like picking out red shingles for the lighthouse, how can we trust them with the many important issues facing our city such as the EMS levy, the tank farm, the new Lighthouse park and waterfront, the construction of a city hall, the care of Rosehill Community Center and finding a solution to our traffic problems?

Personally, I feel the current council needs to be fired, and I intend to do my part at the November elections to ensure that happens. There are four candidates who are willing to listen to their constituents instead of bulldozing us with their own private agendas. If the three incumbents win election, then we will be stuck with the same inept leadership that has caused so much grief in recent years. We deserve better.

There is so much potential for wonderful things to happen in Mukilteo – first we must rid ourselves of our dysfunctional city council.
