Mariners vs. Milwaukee Brewers, 12:05 p.m. (PST)

Radio: KOMO (1000 AM)

Pitchers: Right-hander Joel Pineiro is scheduled to pitch the first six innings for the Mariners, followed by left-hander Eddie Guardado and right-hander J.J. Putz.

If Jamie Moyer gets any more efficient, he may need 10 innings to get in all his work during his next exhibition outing.

For the second straight game, Moyer pitched one inning more than he was scheduled to work Friday because he hadn’t reached his pitch count. He pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and a two-run homer in the first inning, in the Mariners’ 10-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

In his last outing, Moyer was scheduled for five innings but pitched six.

“That’s not too far away from being ready to go,” manager Bob Melvin said. “He was throwing his cutter to both sides and changing speeds on his changeup, which not too many guys can do.”

There are no significant injuries

“The kids throws two fastballs by him and thinks he’s going to throw another one by him. That doesn’t happen.”

Melvin on Edgar Martinez’s at-bat against Giants pitcher Ryan Jensen. Martinez hit a three-run home run.

Hiram Bocachica, who has played well in the outfield as he competes for one of the final openings on the roster, got his first look at first base Friday and impressed immediately.

He made a diving catch of a line drive late in the game.

“Not to many guys can look like a natural in the outfield and take it to the infield and look pretty comfortable there, too,” Melvin said.
