LAKE STEVENS – In a showdown of girls basketball rivals Tuesday night at Lake Stevens High School, youth won out over experience in the Western Conference North matchup.

Lake Stevens freshman Mary Ochiltree held her own against last season’s state scoring leader, junior Randi Richardson of Arlington. Ochiltree had 13 points to lead the Vikings and added three steals, six rebounds and one blocked shot in a 56-49 victory over the Eagles.

“Mary played great defense tonight, she handled herself very well against such a player like Richardson,” Lake Stevens head coach Tom Tri said. “Tonight was a good battle of two rivals.”

Richardson did well for herself as well, scoring a game-high 18 points.
