Jonathan Raban, author of “Waxwings,” will discuss his book at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Edmonds Bookshop. “Waxwings” takes place in Seattle in the tumultuous 1990s as several people find their lives unraveling in the shadow of the World Trade Organization riots and the dot-com explosion.

In the mood for mysteries? Meet Craig Johnson, author of “The Cold Dish,” at noon Tuesday at Seattle Mystery Bookshop, and Carlos Ruiz Zafon, who signs his “The Shadow of the Wind” at noon Wednesday. Also catch Zafon at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Bay Book Co.

Free film

The free Sunday film series continues at the Everett Library at 2 p.m. on Feb. 13 with “Hop,” a French film with English subtitles, by director Dominique Standaert. It’s a heartwarming adventure recommended for ages 10 to adult and was a selected for the 2005 New York International Children’s Film Festival, which takes place in March.
