MARYSVILLE – The entire meet came down to which team could win the last race, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Kamiak boys swim team won the race and the meet, defeating Marysville-Pilchuck 96-90 Tuesday in a non-conference meet at the M-P pool.
“It was a good, early season dual meet,” Marysville-Pilchuck coach Scott Knowles said. “Both teams put in a good effort.”
Kamiak was led by sophomore Chris Linch, who had two individual victories and was the anchor on Kamiak’s meet-winning 400 relay team.
Knowles was proud of the Tomahawks swimmers, saying they “really swam well.”
The standout of the meet for M-P was Gabe Lopez, also a sophomore, who won the 100 backstroke with a state qualifying time of 57.48 seconds and was on a winning Tomahawk relay team.
Teammate Trevor LeValley also helped the Tomahawks along, swimming with Lopez in the 200 medley relay and winning two events on his own.
