50 years ago (1957)
Dr. and Mrs. I.A. Weaver, 1514 Oakes Ave., returned from Atlantic City, N.J., where they attended the annual international convention of Kiwanis Clubs. Dr. Weaver was district lieutenant governor and was official delegate from Everett Kiwanis Club. They made the trip by airplane and also visited Washington, D.C. and New York City.
Jack Hilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hilton, and Lorrie Garrioch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Garrioch, were selected Boy and Girl of the Month by the Everett Exchange Club. The main speaker at the Monte Cristo Hotel luncheon was Chuck Lee.
25 years ago (1982)
Members of the Arlington High School drill team attempted to persuade passing motorists to have their cars washed during the town’s annual Frontier Days celebration, but the rain dampened their efforts. The wet washers were Michell Larson, Candi Jackson, Laurie Olson and Patty Dutson.
Mark Schrader of Stanwood had a dream: an eight-month solo sailing trip around the world. He was executive director of the Resource Foundation, a social service organization with facilities in Stanwood and Mountlake Terrace. His boat was a Valiant 40 named “Resourceful.”
