EVERETT — One person was hurt and a firefighter was taken to the hospital after a two-alarm fire at a warehouse in Everett on Wednesday.

Firefighters responded around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday to the 2900 block of Chestnut Street for reports of flames and smoke coming from a commercial warehouse, according to a social media post from the Everett Fire Department. Multiple callers reported hearing explosions from inside the building, the post said.

On arrival, firefighters could see smoke pouring from warehouse windows and roll-up doors, EFD said.

Employees working inside were able to evacuate before first responders arrived, one person was taken to the hospital with burns to their arm, according to the social media post.

Firefighters took an exterior approach to attacking the flames before moving inside, because of the fire conditions and the age of the building, the fire department said.

Crews needed just over an hour to control the fire, the department said. One firefighter was later taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

A half dozen agencies supported the response, including firefighters from Snohomish, Marysville and South County Fire, as well as the Everett Police Department, the post said.

The cause of the fire and the explosions heard inside the warehouse remains under investigation, EFD said.
