50 years ago (1957)

Eva N. Burch would be honored at an open house at the Deaconess Children’s Home on Highland Ave. Louise Dobler, president of the Deaconess Children’s Home Board, and board members extended a cordial invitation to the honored lady’s many friends in the community. She was leaving after 27 years as its superintendent.

Former Everett resident Ella Husted McLean was assigned the position of secretary to the location company for Producer Buddy Adler’s 20th-Century Fox film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific.” Prior to her affiliation with motion pictures companies on location in Hawaii, she had her own radio program interviewing visitors to the islands.

25 years ago (1982)

Lifeguards were ready for any emergency at Silver Lake City Beach. They were Bob Howard, Bruce Buchea, Roger Walsh, Rod Norman and Collette Buchea. All of them were accomplished swimmers who had passed advanced life-saving courses. In addition, they were proficient at cardiopulmonary and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, first aid and scuba diving.

The small restaurant in the Mill Creek Country Club was open to the public. Dinners were pleasant, the view was great, and the place had a soft-spoken, old-fashioned class. It was reviewed by Mark Harden and Penny Parker.
