50 years ago (1957)
The Weyerhaeuser Safety Committee was honored again for progress made in the field of industrial safety. Some members were Walt Peters, Harry Bradford, Joe Tate, Keene Strobel, Harry Kristiansen, Derb Peters, Doug Kilner, Lawrence Bryant, Clarence McDonald, Howard Hunt, Eric Lundquist and Harold Hudon.
The Deaconess Children’s Home held an open house at 2120 Highland Ave. It gave the public a chance to meet Eva Burch’s successor, Willard Stone. Stone was formerly a Yakima photographer who went back to school attending the National College for Christian Workers in Kansas City.
25 years ago (1982)
Granite Falls had plans to revitalize its downtown by capitalizing on its gold and timber history. The Granite Falls Historical Society and the Chamber of Commerce were involved in the project. Involved were architect Kevin Gent, historian Flo Lentz and project director Allan Comp. Granite Falls’ own history would guide the theme so it would not be another Leavenworth or Winthrop.
Air Force Tech Sgt. Thomas Wolf of Lynnwood was in charge of aeromedical service at the Kelley Air Force Base in Texas, which provided general and emergency medical treatment.
